Leadership is Hard

Leadership is one of the hardest roles a person can step into.

No matter what you do, you won’t please everyone—and people will talk. Oh, will they talk.

They’ll talk about things they think they know… and have absolutely no clue about.

I once served on a leadership team where someone outside the group accused our leader of manipulating us—saying he pushed his own agenda and swayed our decisions.

That couldn’t have been further from the truth.

All he did was create a simple agenda of what we needed to cover—something he was trained to do professionally. He never told us what to think. In fact, most of our discussions had nothing to do with him. He asked questions, and we talked among ourselves, relying on each other’s experience and wisdom to help our organization grow.

Still, that outsider formed an opinion based on… nothing. Just assumptions. And they weren’t the only one.

Isn’t that a common thing?

Instead of honoring our leaders, we take bits and pieces of gossip and form whole stories out of them.

We act like we know the whole picture—when we don’t.

Let’s stop that.

Let’s choose something better.

Let’s pray for our leadership—whether it’s our country, county, city, school, church, board, or any other place where people are called to lead.

Let’s ask God to give them wisdom, discernment, and direction. Let’s pray for humility and strength, for grace and vision.

And instead of listening to everyone else’s opinions, let’s go straight to the source—both the leadership, and the Lord.

Because leadership is hard. It’s not always popular. It’s not always appreciated. But we need people willing to step into it.

Let’s be the kind of people who support, not sabotage.

Let’s lift them up instead of tearing them down.

Scripture:

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” — Proverbs 11:14 (ESV)

Prayer:

Lord,

Thank You for calling leaders to serve and guide us.

Grant them wisdom beyond their own understanding, patience in trials, and strength when the path is hard.

Help us to honor and support them, guarding our hearts against gossip and judgment.

May Your grace surround them and Your truth guide their decisions.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
