My Bible Study Today: Esther

Currently, my Bible study is called “30 Days with Jesus – Experiencing His Presence Throughout the Old and New Testaments” by Lysa TerKeurst (one of my favorite Christian authors).

Today’s focus was on Esther. The book of Esther is one of only two books in the Bible named after a woman (the other is Ruth). That’s significant—especially considering the time period in which the Bible was written, when men held nearly all societal power. Esther’s story stands out, and her role in Scripture is incredibly meaningful to me.

Esther was a Jewish girl chosen by the king to become his new queen. The king didn’t know she was Jewish, but he was drawn to her beauty and presence. What’s powerful is how God used her—an unlikely candidate—to carry out His plan. Esther’s story reminds us that even when it feels like God is silent or absent, He is never truly gone. He is always present, always working behind the scenes, guiding us, loving us, and preparing us for a greater purpose.

Both Jesus and Esther experienced betrayal. Like Esther and her cousin Mordecai, Jesus understood the pain of being let down by people. Yet, Jesus—though fully human—remained sinless. He carried the weight of every human emotion, every hardship, and still chose to trust the Father’s plan. Similarly, Esther responded to Haman’s evil plot with courage, wisdom, and grace.

Jesus and Esther both trusted God with their lives. They confronted powerful enemies and overcame evil schemes intended to destroy their people. They both risked everything to save others. Esther, an orphaned Jewish girl, and Jesus, born in humble circumstances, were unlikely heroes—but both were placed by God for a divine purpose. They laid down their own desires to fulfill the greater calling placed on their lives.

Let’s follow their example. Let’s seek God’s guidance and respond with obedience when He calls us. You never know how He might use your “yes” to change the world.
